If its meeting your needs at the moment you can use it with confidence. Lightroom 5.7.1 isn't being updated anymore, there's no support for new cameras and no updates to fix any issues. Don't overburden yourself with the details of that right now. But if you should choose to go in that direction in the future you could install the trial version long enough to convert your catalog and then go through the transition to the cloud-based Lightroom.
It is a unique animal that is only "compatible" with Lightroom Classic CC. You cannot transition from Lightroom 5.7.1 to the new Lightroom CC. The new Lightroom CC is a cloud-based Lightroom. All of your work will be in the new upgraded catalog, so your work will continue basically uninterrupted. When you install Lightroom Classic CC the new program will recognize that the catalog will have to be upgraded and will do that automatically. If you decide to move to the subscription-based Lightroom in the future, it is a relatively seamless process.
